In the case of an electrical measurement device which has a digitally operating sensor (10) and an evaluation circuit connected thereto by means of a transmission line (12), in order to be able to detect defects in the sensor and the data transmission path a detector circuit is provided, which continuously monitors the difference between successive measurement signal/data words and, if a predetermined threshold value is exceeded, produces a defect report signal. This detector circuit comprises (in the case of Gray-coded measurement signal/data words in serial form) a shift register (14), an exclusive-OR gate (20) connected to its input and output, and a binary counter (22) at whose 21-output terminal the defect report signal is produced. <IMAGE>
