In protective clothing, in particular an overall, having a removable protective helmet and a clamping element for clamping the edge of the neck opening of the clothing to the lower edge of the protective helmet, an intermediate layer made of deformable, in particular elastically deformable, material is provided, which intermediate layer is inserted between the edge of the neck opening and the protective helmet, can be clamped by the clamping element against the edge of the helmet together with the edge of the neck opening, and can be designed, in particular, as a more or less wide ring of rubber-elastic material which can be placed around the edge of the protective helmet, which ring is intended to serve as a support for the neck gathering which is customarily provided in overalls of the said type, and can be designed as a specifically shaped rubber profile. In the clamping element mentioned above, provision is made for its tensioning element to be provided, at least at one end, with a thread on which a clamping piece attached to the other end of the tensioning element is adjustable by means of an adjusting nut.
