The blood pump can be implanted in a patient's body or fitted externally. It consists of a housing which supports a flexible membrane. This membrane in its expanded condition is in the form of a torus with a cross-section which is approximately elliptical. The pump has an inlet and outlet valve and is actuated by a ram attached to a shaft. The cross-section of the ram matches the expanded cross-section of the membrane. The inlet and outlet connections are aligned tangentially with the mean dia. of the membane. USE - Blood pmp to replace human heart.
