The invention is directed towards a boring appliance which, apart from the drilling implement, contains a boring connection to be bored with it and a gate interacting with it in a sealing manner. In order to obtain a low overall height and easier manipulation, it is proposed to arrange the drilling implement and the housing of the gate in such a way that they are fitted into each other on the boring connection, the drilling frame being screwed in place in the interior of the boring connection, while the gate housing acts in the peripheral area of the boring connection. Arranged between the drilling frame and the drilling rod are the two halves of a rotary driver which come into engagement with one another when the drilling rod is raised. The drilling frame can thereby be screwed out of the boring connection again. In the process, the drilling implement moves into a space of the gate housing above a stop member passing through it. The drilling implement can thereby be attached and dismantled with the boring connection sealed.
