The invention specifies a unit comprising a plane base plate and a model of a tooth rim detachably received by the unit, the tooth rim model being formed by casting the impression taken from the teeth in a jaw and by defined placement of the base plate on to the impression, and the tooth rim model and the base plate being connected by common positive and non-positive retaining means. On its side facing the tooth rim model the base plate is to be profiled and the tooth rim model is to be retained, at least indirectly, relative to the base plate by magnetic force.
