A sliding bearing with high load capacity comprises a sliding layer (2) deposited physically under vacuum on a metallic bearing layer (1) and consisting of a basic material containing finely dispersed incrustations (6) essentially insoluble at the operating temperature. To ensure maximum wear resistance and minimum friction throughout the service life of the bearing, the incrustations are exclusively less hard than the basic material, which is crystallized in the form of rods aligned preferably perpendicular to the sliding surface.
