The contact arrangement for the vacuum switch has two hollow-cylindrical contact pieces (1, 2) which interact along an axis (3) and have flat contact parts (4, 5) which are opposite one another. Current paths (6) which are inclined in the same direction with respect to the axis (3) are formed in the envelope surfaces of the contact pieces (1, 2) in order to produce an axially directed magnetic field. This contact arrangement is intended to be distinguished by high mechanical strength and low wear. This is achieved in that at least one of the current paths (6) of each of the contact pieces (1, 2) is bounded by at least two material recesses which are arranged along a helical line (7) and are preferably constructed as slots (8). <IMAGE>
