Belonging to the prior art are rack bars which consist of longitudinal sections which are connected to one another in an articulated manner and are arranged in the area of a side wall of the face conveyor. They are supported on a supporting structure in such a way as to be displaceable to a limited extent in the longitudinal direction and are here connected to a longitudinal guide in a positive-locking manner. According to the invention, the individual longitudinal sections (3a, 3b) of the rack bar (3) are to be equipped with two hooks (11) attached on their underside, preferably to the ends of each longitudinal section (3a, 3b). The hooks (11) engage in one recess (12) each in the surface (10) supporting the longitudinal section (3a, 3b) and limit the displacement path of the rack bar (3). The hooks (11) are dimensioned to be narrower than the width of the recess (12) and reach with a bend (13) under the surface (10) supporting the longitudinal section (3a, 3b). Strips (15), which extend over the length of the recesses (12) and are detachably connected to the supporting structure (4) of the longitudinal section (3a, 3b), secure the bends (13) of the two hooks (11) in their position reaching under the surface (10). <IMAGE>
