The contact arrangement for the vacuum switch has two contact pieces (1, 2) which interact along an axis (3) and have flat contact surfaces (4, 5) which are opposite one another. Current paths (12) which extend from the contact piece interior to the envelope surfaces of the contact pieces (1, 2) and into the region of the contact surfaces (4, 5) and are inclined in the same direction with respect to the axis (3) are formed in rotationally symmetrical contact carriers (10, 11) of the contact pieces (1, 2). During switching off, those current paths (12) which are inclined in the same direction with respect to the axis (3) produce an axially directed magnetic field. This contact arrangement is intended to be distinguished by high mechanical strength and low wear. This is achieved in that the current paths (12) are bounded by holes (13) which are guided through the contact carrier (11), obliquely with respect to the axis (3). In this case, the holes extend from the contact surface (5) or the end surface (9) of the contact carrier (11) to the envelope surface of the contact carrier (11). <IMAGE>
