<p>The warping reed (15) is displaced relative to the warping drum (14) depending upon the growing package thickness, the package circumference being felt by a feeling member (28) during warping of the first section with a predetermined warping carriage advance, and at the same time the displacement travel thereof being measured during a measuring package phase depending upon the number of revolutions of the warping drum (14), and subsequently, during the warping of the rest of the first warping section and after the copying of the measuring package during warping of the following sections, the advance of the warping carriage (1) being corrected, during the warping of the rest of the following sections, in accordance with the measured displacement path. In order to obtain a uniform package structure of all warping sections (18) including the first warping section, a basic package is warped with the predetermined warping carriage advance, during warping of the first section before the warping of the measuring package, and the package circumference thereof is felt by the feeling member (28), the displacement path of which is measured depending upon the number of revolutions.
