Known raising and lowering devices for commercial vehicles with leaf sprung front axle, pneumatically sprung rear axle and possibly raisable trailing axle have a lifting rocker in the area of the front axle, which rocker can be actuated by way of an air bellows for raising and lowering the front axle when dealing with interchangeable bodies of a commercial vehicle. The fact that the lifting rocker with air bellows complicates the construction represents a disadvantage. According to the invention, a hydraulic raising and lowering device (4), arranged essentially vertically, is provided on a leaf sprung front axle (2) in the area of each front wheel respectively between vehicle frame (5) and leaf spring (3) in place of conventional front axle shock absorbers, as a result of which the chassis frame can be lowered and raised again in the area of the front axle when dealing with interchangeable bodies. <IMAGE>
