PURPOSE: To measure the characteristics of a liquid over a wide range by providing a guide for electromagnetic line and bringing at least one drop of the liquid into contact with the guide at the position where the radiation from the guide gets in the drop so that the radiation can guide the signal in which the radiation is the function of interaction with the drop. CONSTITUTION: First and second radiation guides respectively composed of optical fibers 10 and 11 are collected to one place at their free lower ends 12 and 13 and the free end of a liquid supply tube 14 is brought nearer to the free ends 12 and 13 of the fibers 10 and 11. Then the liquid supplied from the tube 14 is formed in a drop 15 at the end sections of the fibers 10 and 11 and infrared rays, etc., having a wavelength of 0.3-1.3m are supplied from a radiation source 20. The radiation from the source 20 reaches the drop 15 through the fiber 10 and reflected in the drop 15. The reflected radiation from the drop 15 reaches a detector circuit 22 through the fiber 11 and the circuit 22 detects the level of the reflected radiation. The detected output level is supplied to a data logger computer 26 provided with a digital voltmeter 23, a storage type oscilloscope 24, a chart type recorder 25, and a printer 27. |
