Method for coating pipe with refractory material

A method for coating an elongated pipe with a refractory material by turning the pipe to wind around it a web of porous material pulled from a dispenser and around a bar mounted within a trough in a position below the surface of a solution of refractory material in the trough. The leading end of the web is secured to the pipe by a tuck locking arrangement. The web is tensioned during the winding and relative movement is provided between the web dispenser and the turning pipe to provide tightly wound spiral windings of the coated web.
