726,234. Batteries. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. Feb. 5, 1954 [March 17, 1953], No. 7297/53. Class 53. An accumulator plate consists of slotted tubes f enclosing the active material which surrounds lead rods c attached to top and bottom bars. The abutting faces of adjacent tubes are so shaped that they abut against one another at points on opposite sides of the central plane of the plate. Fig. 3 shows one construction in which the plate consists of tubes having rounded abutting corners. In order to allow the electrolyte to have access to the spaces s between adjacent tubes the slots extend across the abutting faces as shown in Fig. 4 and the top and bottom bars may be cut away as shown at i. Stiffening ribs g may be provided and they may be recessed on their inner faces to receive fins h on the rods c as shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 8 shows another construction in which the abutting faces of the tubes consist of slotted ribs k. The tubes are cut away at their ends as shown at j to enable electrolyte to enter the spaces between the tubes. Specifications 598,415 and 647,691 are referred to. |
