PURPOSE:To shorten the regulating time of a position detecting sensor, by a method wherein the optimum stopping position is obtained from a distance between the changing points of a sensor pattern as well as the stopping position of a movable piece, which is measured actually, to regulate the position detecting sensor so as to conform to the optimum stopping position. CONSTITUTION:A computer 11 operates a distance DN(n) to the changing point of a sensor pattern SPn-1, preceeding from a stopping position STP, and a distance DP(n) to the changing point of a successive sensor pattern SPn+1 based on the sensor pattern from a position detecting sensor 5 and an absolute position information from a displacement meter 8. Then, the minimum values of the distances DN(n), DP(n) are obtained. Subsequently, the stopping position of a carriage is moved fore-and-aft within a distance between the changing points of the sensor pattern to obtain the minimum value under these conditions. A stopping position, whereat the minimum value becomes maximum, is determined as the optimum stopping position and, thus, the position detecting sensor is regulated. |
