PURPOSE:To effectively reduce the generation of Brakhausen noise by selecting the coercive force and angular ratio of the magnetic layer of a head. CONSTITUTION:The head equips an MR element 4 to raminate first and second magnetic layers 1 and 2, which have an MR effect, through a non-magnetic intermediate layer 3. The both magnetic layers 1 and 2 are composed of the high magnetic permeability material of the >=0.5 (Oe) coercive force in the direction of the axis of easy magnetization and of the >=0.6 angular ratio of a hysteresis curve in the direction of the axis of easy magnetization. The MR element 4 is positioned so that the axis of easy magnetization of the magnetic layers 1 and 2 can be arranged in a direction to rectangularly cross the direction of a signal magnetic field from a magnetic recording medium S. Accordingly, the Barkhausen noise based on the generation of a magnetic domain wall is reduced. |
