This device 17 for extending the thimble guide 15 comprises an upper coupling 18 surrounding the guide in a place adjoining the face 3 of the lower core plate 2 and an upper coupling 20 which can be moved in relation to the lower coupling 18 and surounds the guide 15 over an upper part of its length. An elastic bellows 22 connects the lower and upper couplings and pushes the annular radial face 34 of the upper coupling 20 in a leakproof manner against the side of the bottom 8 of a nozzle 16 of a fuel assembly. A circumferential sealing arrangement is present at the location of the lower coupling 18 and surrounds the thimble guide when the extending device is in its installed state. <IMAGE>
