Method of transferring genes into plants, in which a) removing, in a nutrient solution, immature pollen grains from anthers and removing the surrounding tissue, b) culturing the isolated immature pollen grains in a nutrient solution, c) transferring foreign genetic material into the pollen grains while they are cultured in vitro and mature, d) allowing the transformed pollen grains to reach full maturity in vitro, e) pollenating receptor plants with the transformed pollen grains and obtaining seeds from these receptor plants, and transgenic seed and propagation products thereof.
