The invention relates to a method for illustrating single-colour or multi-colour halftone images. The object was to achieve uniform staging of the ink density by advantageous utilisation of a conventional dot printing process in which a defined quantity of ink is applied as a printing dot to the recording medium. According to the invention, the object was achieved in that a constant quantity of ink is used per printing process to form the printing dot. By repeated printing of the same printing-dot position, a larger colour spot results. The colour density staging is produced by the selective use of single or dual printing to achieve smaller and larger printing spots. In this case, the corresponding uniform staging results from the variation of large and small printing dots and their position in the image dot. <IMAGE>
