A piston-cylinder unit 2 for rolling stands is used for bending, balancing and/or supporting the mill rolls and consists of a piston 4 which can be moved axially in a cylinder space 3, the cylinder space 3 being provided, for example, in a block 1 of the roll housing and/or in a guide piece 1 for the chocks. To allow optimum use of the installation space available in roll stands, the piston 4 and the cylinder space 3 accommodating it have a rounded-oblong or elliptical outline and are accommodated in the block 1, guide piece 1 or the like with their longer or major cross-sectional axes parallel to the axial direction of the mill rolls. <IMAGE>
