PURPOSE:To obtain a drug composition having lowering action on blood sugar value, comprising an extract from bark, woody part or leaf part of Shiia sieboldii MAKINO of the family Fagaceae with methanol as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Ground part (bark, woody part or leaf part) of Shiia sieboldii MAKINO of the family Fagaceae, an evergreen high tree widely growing in Japan proper (Kanto district and westward), Shikoku and Kyushu is ground and extracted with methanol. The methanol extract is further extracted with water and an ether and a water layer part (ether unextracted part) is adsorbed on an absorbing resin. Successively the adsorbed material is eluted with hydrous methanol. Preferably the adsorbed material is successively eluted with water and 20% methanol and further with 40% methanol. The extract is used as an active ingredient to give the aimed substance. |
