In order, in the case of a spindle-adjusting device, in particular for the longitudinal adjustment of vehicle seats, to be able to compensate for tolerances in the spindle shape in the vertical direction and transversely thereto, without play occurring in the axial direction of the spindle, it is proposed to design the spindle nut as a cylindrical element which is mounted in the retainer such that it can move relative to the latter. The spindle passes through two openings in the cage which are aligned with each other and the dimensions of which exceed the external diameter of the spindle by a predetermined amount.
