Use of polyhydroxyl-containing polymers as sizing agents

There are provided novel sizing agents which in addition to vinyl alcohol contain 1-alkylvinyl alcohol with or without small amounts of vinyl acrylate (acylate), allyl alcohol and other monomer units. They are notable especially for their excellent dissolving properties in water, which distinguish them advantageously from the products hitherto used in the industry.
