A wing mirror for motor vehicles includes an outer casing (2) which encloses a mirror surface (3) and a device (13) having a gear and an electric motor (15) which causes the casing (2) to rotate about a fixed shaft (26). A control circuit of the electric motor (15) causes automatic rotation of the casing (2) from a position in which it is folded against the vehicle to a normal operating position when the vehicle exceeds a prescribed threshold speed. The casing (2) is pivoted into a position in which it is folded against the vehicle when the engine is switched off and a manual signal is given. <IMAGE>
