The invention relates to new rheological additives for dispersions which contain 1-allylvinyl alcohol units and optionally small amounts of vinyl acetate units, allyl alcohol units and other monomer units in addition to vinyl alkyl units. They are distinguished, in particular, by the fact that they can be added as a solid directly to dispersions without prior dissolution.
