The catch device according to the invention for the measuring tape of a tape measure works merely with a simple push button (3), whereas a number of parts are usually necessary. This push button (3) has a passage (4), a movable friction catch (5), a slot (6) and a core bar (7) which projects away from the push button and on which a separate spring (8) is mounted. The measuring tape (2) is inserted via the slot (6) into the passage (4) of the push button and the spring (8) is fastened to a spring base-plate (9). The measuring tape (2) can, with the aid of the two catches (5, 10), be fixed or released by pressing the push button (3). <IMAGE>
