The invention relates to the possibility of setting the horizontal distance of the handgrips from the seat in the case of vehicles which can be operated by muscular power. The hitherto known possibilities of setting via the add-on pieces lead to secondary effects: if the saddle is displaced horizontally, the inclination of the connecting line between bottom bracket ball bearing and saddle, which is of fundamental importance for the ergonomics of the tread crank drive, also changes. If the position of the handlebar is altered, the controlling properties also change with it. In order to avoid these influences to a large extent and to increase the possibilities of variation of the longitudinal adaptation, above all in the case of bicycles for children and youths and special vehicles such as wheelchair-bicycles ("wheelchair-rickshaws"), it is proposed to design the bicycle frame such that its length is variable. This can be achieved by the steering head being connected to the rear structure of the vehicle by means of a telescope-like tube connection. In the case of a suitable design, the mechanism of the longitudinal adjustment can also be used for separating the vehicle into more easily storable parts.
