PURPOSE:To form a silicon nitride sintered body having higher toughness than a convertional product by blending silicon nitride powder with specified percentages of silicon carbide fibers, Y2O3 and CeO2 as sintering assistants and ZrO2. CONSTITUTION:This high toughness silicon nitride sintered body has a compsn. obtd. by dispersing 5-43wt.% silicon carbide fibers in silicon nitride as a base material and blending the material with 1-14wt.% in total of >=0.5wt.% each of Y2O3 and CeO2 as sintering assistants and 1-14wt.% ZrO2. |
