PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance and to enable decomposition of NOx contained in large excess oxygen by carrying the specified amount of metal of platinum group on composite oxide shown in the specified crystal structural formula to form an NOx decomposition catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Composite oxide having a crystal structure shown in the formula I (A and A' show alkaline earth metal, B and B' show rare earth metal, C and C' show metal of silver group, and the other metal, 0<=x<=3.0, 0<=x'<=3.0, 0<=y<=2.0, 0<=y'<=2.0, 0<=z<=4.0, 0<=z'<=4.0, 4.0<=alpha<=8.0, 0<=beta<=2.0) is molded. An NOx decomposition catalyst is obtained by carrying 0-1wt.% metal of platinum group on this composite oxide. This catalyst is obtained by carrying the above-mentioned composite oxide together with an inorganic binder such as colloidal alumina on the surface of a catalyst carrier, e.g., wherein an inorganic heat resistant material is molded into a honeycomb shape. |
