The process, for making a fuel additive for i.c. and diesel engines to improve cetane index consists of mixing (a) active elements of alpha-methyl naphthalene, pyridine and nitrobenzene; (b) elements which produce catalysis of peroxides, e.g. toluene, ethylene diamine and 0-cresol; (c) elements which act vehicle and for lubrication with viscosity 6.3 deg.C. Engler at 50 deg.C, consisting of paraffinic SAE 10, paraffinic/napthalene fraction SAE 40 and low density naphtha, in suitable proportions.
