The piston-type hydraulic actuator, particularly a portable vehicle jack, gives increased pump output in the unloaded state. Two pistons slide independently one inside the other in the axial direction. The inner piston has recesses in the outside and the outer one recesses in the inside, accommodating spring driving members.
