The method is for handling voluminous line-like material and it is subjected to a compressive effect across its whole width. This is applied in the thickness direction and removes gas in the material e.g. air. During compression moves parallel to its axis and compression is carried out by guiding the material through a slit between a cylindrical roller and an endless track support. The circumferential velocity of the roller is equal to the linear velocity of the track, which is porous and runs on a support roller on a shaft.
