发明名称 GROOVING METHOD FOR BRITTLE MEMBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of a light transmission by machining the inclined face of the backmost part of a groove in a vertical face by a high energy beam after forming the groove by a pyramid tool made of a sintered hard alloy in the case of forming the groove for an optical fiber connection on an optical integrated circuit board by a brittle member to make the combination with an optical fiber dense. CONSTITUTION:In the case of connecting an optical fiber to the optical integrated circuit board 10 by the material which is brittle and hard to work of a glass, LiNbO3, etc., a V sectional groove 12 is first formed on the board 10 by progressing the pyramid tool made of a sintered hard alloy by rotating it. Since an inclined face is formed by the pyramid tool at the backmost part 12a of this groove 12 a gap exists between the both even if an optical fiber is inserted and the light transmission efficiency is reduced. In order to prevent this the back part surface of the groove 12 is covered by the metal mask 18 of an Al, etc., the notch part 18a exposing the backmost inclined face is formed, evaporated by projecting a high energy laser beam on the inclined face from a CO2 laser head 20, etc., and shaped in a vertical plane shape. A gap is eliminated between an optical fiber 14 and the light wave guide path 16 of the board and the reduction in the light transmission efficiency in the both is eliminated.
