The present invention relates to an apparatus for the recovery of an article against the deposit of a counter-value support, for example a token. According to the invention, the apparatus comprises a lock (5), a device (6) for the optical recognition of the form of the article, a means (2a) for discharging the article recognised as correct, a counter-value deposit device (10), a device (10) for destroying the article recognised as correct, and a container (11) for collecting the articles introduced into the apparatus. The invention is used particularly for the recovery of plastic cups.
