PURPOSE:To realize the uniform orientation of the titled element over a large area by constituting an orientation film of a thin film composed of a N- alkoxymethylated nylon having a structure shown by a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:The orientation film is constituted of the thin film composed of the N-alkoxymethylated nylon having the structure shown by the formula wherein R is -CH3, -C2H5 or -C3H7 group. And, the N-alkoxymethylated nylon is formed into a film, without using any cross-linking agent, under a mild condi tion such as heating only to remove a solvent. Hence, the polymerization capable of forming a tridimensional network structure does not advance so much, resulted in obtaining a dimensionally high crystalline film, and the orientation of a ferroelectricitic liquid crystal (FLC) is improved. Accordingly, the uniform orientation of the titled element is obtd. over the large area. |
