摘要 Method is claimed for temporary or final storage of irradiated nuclear fuel elements, the elements being enclosed in sleeves and stored in a shielded, cooled store. The fuel assemblies are enclosed in the sleeves at the power plant itself and are then transported in a shielded container on a rail-mounted wagon to an access station at the end of the store. The wagon has a pivot bearing, allowing the shielded container to be swung to an upright position where its upper end is flush with the wagon platform; the container is placed beneath a floor opening of the access station and the fuel assemblies, each in its sleeve, are lifted out and transferred into a temporary magazine. From here they are removed into the store itself by a loading machine, esp. a second overhead crane.
