Deodorising compsn. for flush cisterns of chemical toilets contains 2.5-25% NaCeo2 (I) in aq. soln. of pH10-13. A combined system consists of this compsn. plus a separate soln., having odour-fixing properties, for use in the septic tank and contg. a ferrous salt plus organic acid. Pref. salts of mg, Zn, Al or Cu can be included as additional odour-fixing agents, and the acid is citric acid (II). USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. are useful in toilets in aircraft, boats, camping sites, etc. Unlike known compsns. (contg. HCHO, quat. ammonium salts, etc.) they do not cause significant pollution of soil and ground water. (I) is able to oxidise mercaptans in acidic medium.
