PURPOSE:To obtain a stable silver halide emulsion advantageous to rapid, simple processing and having high sensitivity by mixing cubic or tetradecahedral silver halide host particles with fine silver halide particles having a smaller average particle size and a higher silver bromide content then the host particles and by aging the mixture. CONSTITUTION:Cubic or tetradecahedral silver halide host particles are mixed with fine silver halide particles having a smaller average particles size than the host particles and the mixture is aged. At this time, a recrystallization reaction takes place because the silver bromide content of the fine silver halide particles is higher than that of the host particles and recrystallization start points are controlled by adsorbing a required compd. on the (100) faces of the host particles. In a produced emulsion, centers of development or latent images are concentrated. Thus, high sensitivity is attained, the stability is improved, fogging is inhibited without deteriorating the rapid developability and superior stability can be obtd. |
