PRODUCTION OF LIGHT GUIDE

PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain a light guide having a low transmission loss by forming a 2nd optical element material having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of a 1st optical element material on the surface of the 1st optical element material and softening the materials by heating, then pressing a die formed with a rugged pattern thereto to embed the light guide pattern part of the 2nd optical element material into the 1st optical element material. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd optical element material having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of the 1st optical element material is formed on the surface of the 1st optical element material and after these materials are softened by heating, the die formed with the rugged pattern corresponding to the desired light guide pattern is pressed thereto to embed the light guide pattern part of the 2nd optical element material into the 1st optical element material. The part of the glass layer 2 which is held embedded into the glass substrate 1 by being pressed by the die 3 formed with the desired circuit pattern of the light guide to a projecting shape from above the high-refractive index glass layer 2 formed on the surface of the glass substrate 1 functions as a core part 10. The transmission loss of the light is thereby decreased and the light guide is inexpensively produced.
