<p>PURPOSE:To extend the life of a light emitting element and to prevent energy loss, by providing a fingertip detection sensor for detecting the presence of the fingertip in a blood flow pickup and allowing the light emitting element to light when the fingertip is inserted in the blood flow pickup and stopping the lighting of the light emitting element when the fingertip is not inserted or limiting the quantity of emitted light. CONSTITUTION:When a person to be measured inserts his fingertip 10 in a blood flow pickup 1, the light emitted from a light emitting element 2 transmits the fingertip 10 of the person to be measured to be received by a photodetector 3 and the variation of the received light thereof is detected in the pulse wave detecting part 6 within an acceleration pulse wave converter 5. Since it is cleared that the fingertip 10 is present in the blood flow pickup 1 on the basis of the output of a fingertip detection sensor, a light emitting quantity controller 9 allows the light emitting element 2 to light. Next, when the person to be measured pulls off his fingertip from the blood flow pickup 1 after measurement, this state is detected by the fingertip detection sensor 4 and, therefore, the light emitting quantity controller 9 can immediately stop or limit the supply of a current to the light emitting element 2. Further, when the fingertip 10 is again inserted, the light emitting element 2 is allowed to light this time according to the procedure opposite to that when the fingertip is pulled off.</p> |
