According to the invention, the method includes the following successive operations: a) hollowing out, along each line of the design, a narrow trench 14, digging down as far as the drainage layer of the pitch 16, b) placing, on edge, in the said trench, of a line of contiguous plates 10, of a filtering aggregate whose upper edge remains slightly below ground level after a tufted strip 11 of synthetic fibres has been adhesively bonded onto the said upper edge, c) wedging of the plates 10 with extraction material, d) filling with sand up to the very top of the fibres of the tufted strips, with a dried and dyed sand, e) removal of the surplus sand by sweeping or brushing, f) cutting off the synthetic fibres at a few millimetres above the ground if this is a dirt or semi-stabilized pitch or at the same height as the adjacent grass if this is a turfed pitch. <IMAGE>
