This metal insert 1, provided to receive a screw, is installed in a cylindrical housing 9 of a plastic component 10. The insert comprises a cylindrical lateral wall 2 with an internal thread 6, and a conical bottom 3 in which there are made slits 7 pointing radially. These slits do not reach the central region 8 of the bottom 3 but they are extended on the side wall 2. A mechanical action P exerted in the central region 8 of the bottom 3 gives rise to the radial expansion of the insert 1 and anchors it into the material of the component 10. <IMAGE>
