NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R1-R8 are each lower alkyl; formu la II is phenyl or naphthyl; R9 is H, lower alkyl, halogen, (substituted)amino or nitro]. EXAMPLE:1,1,5,5-tetra-( p-dimethylaminophenyl )-1,4-pentadine-3-p-toluenesulfona mide. USE:Electron-donating color developing agents. PREPARATION:A reaction is carried out in an organic solvent containing small quantities of catalyst at room temperature to 200 deg.C for several hours, between (A) a tetra-(p-dialkylaminophenyl)-3-hydroxy-1,4-pentadiene compound of formula III and (B) a (substituted)benzene (or naphthalene) sulfonamide of formula IV. After cooling, the solvent is removed, the reaction product being then extracted with e.g. toluene from the residue, washing with warn water followed by elimina tion of the residual solvent. Thence, the resultant residue is recrystallized using e.g. toluene. |
