NEW MATERIAL:A hydantoin derivative shown by the formula (R1 is H, CH3; R2 is 8-18C n-alkyl). EXAMPLE:3-Octadecyl-5-(2-methylpropylidene)hydantoin. USE:An active ingredient for a sensitizer for heat-sensitive recording material, effective in use as a sensitizer for a heat-sensitive recording material utilizing reaction between color or light-colored basic dye and a coupler. The recording material has excellent high-speed recording characteristics, low reduction in whiteness and balanced properties in quality. PREPARATION:Hydantoin is reacted with isobutylaldehyde or 2-methyl-n- butylaldehyde in the presence of an amino acid such as glycine or a salt thereof in water or in an aqueous solution at pH 8-12 and the prepared compound is reacted with 8-18C alkyl halide in a polar aprotic solvent such as DMC in the presence of an alkali such as K2CO3 to give a compound shown by the formula. |
