PURPOSE: To provide wood with the noninflammability by diffusing water- insoluble, noninflammable inorganic compound fine powder in the hydrophobic organic solvent and impregnating it in the wood. CONSTITUTION: As water-insoluble and noninflammable inorganic compound, a silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, antimony oxide, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, barium phosphate and calcium borate, etc., are used. The inorganic compound whose diameter is less than 0.1μis used to form a fine powder. Aromatic solvent such as xylene, etc., aliphatic series solvent such as ligroin, etc., and halogenated solvent such as perchloroethylene, etc., are used as the hydrophobic organic solvent to diffuse the inorganic compound fine powder. The wood is dipped in the suspension to be impregnated therein. Thereafter, the wood which has undergone the foregoing process is dried and the organic solvent is removed, the inorganic compound fine powder being fixed in the wood.
