The invention relates to an operating lever for a parking brake, especially a motor vehicle handbrake lever, with a lever part (1) of essentially U-shaped profile open at the bottom, an actuating rod (7) supported in this for a catch element (11), a release button (8) connected to the actuating rod and a handle part (16) encompassing the free end of the lever part. Known operating levers have a tendency to a rattling noise, which is caused by the constant contact of the actuating rod on the flanks of the lever part. The object of the invention is to effectively prevent the unwanted rattling noise for a low design and assembly cost. The object is achieved in that, in the area of the lower vertex of the curvature of the handle part (16), the latter is provided with a guide tongue (18) underpinning the actuating rod (7). <IMAGE>
