Line-drawing devices on typewriters for drawing horizontal and vertical lines are already known in many designs. The fact that they are hardly ever encountered in practice ought to be sufficient evidence of them not proving to be expedient or of obstructing the writing operation too greatly. This disadvantage is avoided by an ink-ribbon cartridge with a displaceable pen which is arranged in a cutout in the cartridge housing so as to be displaceable and lockable by hand in two end positions. If, in this case, lines are to be interrupted, the pen is to be engaged with and disengaged from the recording medium by hand in each case. The invention is based on the object of allowing lines to be produced with few manipulations. This is achieved in that the displaceable pen (16) is in positive-locking engagement with power transmission members which can be operatively connected to and disconnected from an electromagnet (57), provided for transporting the ink ribbon (10), by means of an operating element (39) which can be actuated by hand, and in that the ink-ribbon transporting members can be moved alternately out of and into the operative range of the electromagnet (57).
