The method is used for producing a dental prosthesis. In order to provide a method of this type which is actually practicable, simple and quick, contour lines (6) are produced on the ground tooth (5) and its surroundings. The lines (6) are recorded by an optoelectronic device (7). The spatial structure of the tooth and of the dental prosthesis is calculated from the recorded values.
