A receiving device for tubes 4 on winding machines is equipped with a shaft 3 which is mounted overhung and is driven by a motor and on which the tube 4 can be clamped in a first bearing 5 facing the mounting of the shaft 3 and in a second bearing 6 facing the free end of the shaft 3. Provided as a first bearing is an annular body 7 which is mounted on the shaft 3 so as to be axially displaceable to a limited extent and which, on its side facing the tube 4, has an especially conically narrowing seat surface 12 for the centring reception of one end of the tube 4 and is loaded axially under the force of a spring 14. Provided as a second bearing 6 is a spreading device 19 which is mounted on the shaft 3 so as to be non-displaceable axially and which, on its side facing the tube 4, has an engagement surface 23, 24 for the centring reception of the other end of the tube 4 and the spreading force of which can be cancelled by means of an actuating slide 27. The annular body 7 and/or the spreading device 19 are connected fixedly in terms of rotation to the shaft 3. The distance, effective in relation to the length of the tube 4, between the annular body 7 and the spreading device 19 is smaller than the length of the tube 4. <IMAGE>
