The invention concerns a method for placing intermediate ribs 12 on top of a timber layer. In the method, the intermediate ribs are collected from storage stations A, B with a collecting device for the intermediate ribs, which collecting device is intended to couple to the intermediate ribs, after which the intermediate ribs are lowered onto a timber layer, advantageously a load of timber layers which are to be dried. In the method, the intermediate ribs are collected from storage stations A, B, C and after this the position of the ribs is changed in relation to the drying load or equivalent, after which the ribs are lowered onto the uppermost layer of the drying load or equivalent.
